SV lights up blue for mental health

Blue lights illuminated the SV Facade last October 8 as the University showed its solidarity with the celebration of Mental Health Month.
The activity was part of AdU’s participation in the Light Up Blue for Mental Health program of the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA).
“We understand the importance of having a stroing support from our family, friends, colleagues, classmates, and our teachers. Reaching out to those who are going through a physical time is not only encouraged but is imperative. For others, the struggle has been a lot tougher. Let your loved one know that you are there for them; a little support goes a long way, it can make a difference. ,”
“ The aim of this celebration is to promote Global Mental Health Awareness, and advocate against the social stigma on those going through mental health issues…we, now, heed the call and support the mental health advocacy,”
PMHA National Executive Director Dr. Carolina Uno – Cayco thanked AdU for its support in their campaign and reminded participants about their advocacy.
“[We] cannot deny the fact that there is still so much to be done, particularly at making mental health services accessible at the community level,” she said.
“So, I hope that today, we start to normalize conversations about mental health; today, we end the stigma, [we] become the hope that many people need, [beginning] with ourselves and people closes to us.”
Adamson University Student Council (AUPS) officers Pocholo Gabriel Torres (President) and Fe Belen Buna (Representative) and Rachelle Ann Langit (VP – Internal) delivered messages explaining and lauding the efforts for the said cause. AUPS Adviser Mr. Charles Vince Saniel also shared insights during the event.
Dr. Celso Mangaoil, Director of the Guidance, Testing and Placement Office, meanwhile, reminded guidance counselors about their role in alleviating metal health isssues in the Adamson community
“As guidance counselors of [AdU], we should also ensure that we communicate mental health; it is our roles as counselors to reduce anxiety, sense of emptiness and sadness that threaten the mental health of our students,” he said.
