Voter education and producing responsible voters remain one of the top priorities in the coming 2022 National and Local Elections.
This has been evident as the University’s Admission and Student Recruitment Office (ASRO), in coordination with the College of Education and Liberal Arts’ (CELA) Social Science Department held a webinar on responsible voting and citizenship and proper election practices for voters and candidates last September 24 via Zoom.
Election 2022: The Philippines towards Responsible Citizenship and the Ethics of Elections, attended by students from different senior high schools, faculty members and administrators featured lectures from Political Science professors Ms. Ester Onag, and Mr. Karlos Guerrero Zaragoza.
The event highlighted the values of responsible citizenship in a democratic society and the role of the youth in ushering social reforms that determine the future of the Filipino nation, especially with their participation in the elections.
“The 2022 National and Local Elections are upon us, and considering that the Right of Suffrage is one of our fundamental rights, we, especially the youth are entrusted with great responsibility to use such right wisely,” ASRO explained. “Hence, to promote students’ political engagement and awareness, [CELA] in coordination with [ASRO] and IDEA Office concluded this webinar.”
ASRO Director Mr. Richmond Yap served as webinar moderator.
The College of Education and Liberal Arts, headed by the Political Science Department, has worked to accomplish the promotion of political participation among the youth through civic space outside of the classroom, as well as uphold a culture of civic engagement among members of the community.
