Two Adamsonians flew the red, white, and blue colors in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
World-champion gymnast Carlos Yulo and shooter Jayson Valdez represented the country in the recently concluded festivities held from July 23 to August in Japan.
Yulo, an alumnus of the Basic Education Department finished fourth in the Finals of the Men’s Vault Apparatus event despite garnering one of the highest scores in his second attempt.
Caloy, as he is fondly called, visited the University last 2019 after winning gold in the Men’s Floor Exercise event of the World Gymnastics Championship held in Stuttgart, Germany.
Customs Administration alum Valdez, meanwhile, made good account of himself in the Men’s 10M Air Rifle event despite landing at 44th place.
Sports shooting has been a staple in Jayson’s blood as he is the son of another renowned name in the sport. He also represented the Philippines in the 2010 and 2018 Asian Games, and bagged a bronze medal in the 2015 Singapore Southeast Asian Games.
Despite Tokyo 2021 being the duo’s maiden Olympic competition, both have earned the right of affixing OLY in their names in recognition of their feat as Olympians.
