The University officially recognized new Adamsonian graduates during the second virtual, and 83rd Commencement Exercises streamed at AdU’s Youtube account last July 15.
A total of 539 candidates were declared as newly-minted professionals during rites hosted by the College of Science.
Fr. William Azul Encelan, CM, Director of the Campus Ministry Office, officiated the Baccalaureate Mass,
and blessed medals to be given to this year’s achievers, and awardees.
Mrs. Emilia Vicencio, University Registrar, along with the Deans of AdU’s 10 colleges presented the
candidates to Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, University President, who then confirmed their graduation.
Mr. Clodualdo Maningat, Chief Science Officer of MGP Ingredients, Inc., and Vice President of
Ingredients R&D, was this year’s Commencement Speaker. The Chemistry alum tried to inspire the Class of 2021, sharing his experiences as a student, and eventually his own success story.
“Today, you have many options for your next chapter and it is important to consider Steve Jobs’
philosophy on life… “trust your gut, find what you love, and follow your heart. The only way to do
great work is to love what you do. If you have not found it yet, keep looking,” he said.
Dr. Maningat, who holds a PhD from Kansas State University, also mentioned four key points from his
story: the value of college education, the essence of time, the Golden Rule, and the importance of
choosing a life partner.
“Let us always remember to look back, to acknowledge and give thanks to God and everyone
who helped pave our way to success; to support and be generous to our Alma mater through
volunteerism and through the spirit of giving. Let us be grateful for how our unique experiences with
Adamson University have enriched our lives along the way,” he continued.
The ceremonies featured 19 academic awardees – seven from the Graduate School, 11 from the College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy, and one from the College of Business Administration’s undergraduate Customs Adminstration program – and two board topnotchers from the Geology Department. Loyalty awards were also given to eight graduates.
Fely Adawe, an Academic Merit Awardee from the BS Customs Administration Department, expressed pride for her roots and gratitude to the Adamsonian community as she delivered the Address of Thanks.
“I come from the Province of Ifugao and I belong to the Indigenous People’s Group called “Tuwali”. My
province is the home of the magnificent rice-terraces. We live simple lives, planting and harvesting our
own vegetables but my simple life in the province did not stop me from dreaming big,” she said.
“Never in my wildest dreams have I imagined that the last two years of my life as a student will be spent in my hometown... I am very proud to say that I passed all my classes with flying colors without a Wi-Fi. My unstable mobile data saw me through it all. Not even a pandemic of the grandest scale could stop us from reaching our goals. Our determination and perseverance will carry us through.”
A replay of the ceremonies is posted at the AdU Youtube page.
