Arki, CRD explores new grant program with PCIEERD

The College of Architecture continued to broaden its faculty development programs, this time partnering with the University’s Center for Research and Development (CRD), and DOST- Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development for a potential scholarship grant for returning scientists.

CoA Dean Ar. Sylvester Shaun Seno explained this move, mentioning Ar. Fredinal Banaag as a possible recipient of the Balik-Scientist Program mandated by Republic Act 11035.

“As part of our efforts to widen opportunities for College of Architecture towards its further advancement, the Office of the College Dean, with [CRD] Director Dr. Nuna Almanzor, met with the prospective Balik-Scientist Program grantee Ar. Banaag last July 9,” Ar. Seno said.

According to Ar. Seno, part of the short-term activities with the College are capability building training on ideation/design process and webinars, as well as review and upgrade of Building Technology syllabi and research publications for the University’s Architecture program.

He also added that the expected start of implementation is by August-September, 2021. 

Once approved, the grant will be the first time an Architecture school in the Philippines would be involved in the endeavor.

Ar. Banaag, who specializes in Architecture and Design, Innovative Construction, Architecture, Arts and Design Pedagogy, Visual Arts & 3D Installations, holds an Architecture degree from Mapua Institute of Technology, a Master of Architecture from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Australia, and a PhD in Development Studies from UST-Manila.

His areas of research interest include the interrelationship between form, function, technology and structure; the efficiency within the varied components of architecture; and socialized architecture and the intimacy in design.
