Members of the Adamson community are on their way to raising their resistance against the Covid-19 virus after receiving their first dose of vaccine during a rollout held last July 6 at the AdU Gymnasium and Saint Vincent Hall.

Faculty members, co-academic staff and dependents, as well as members of the community living in-campus were inoculated during the venture initiated by the Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (CCBI), led by its President, Mr. Adones Carmona, in coordination with AdU and the Local Government of the City of Manila. CCBI members and employees were also included in the project.

“[When we] had our new set of [CCBI] officers for 2021-2023, Mayor Isko Moreno had us inducted in his office, and afterwards, we discussed the possibility of allocation of vaccines for our members, [which] was eventually approved by the medical office of the Manila City government,” Mr. Carmona explained how they secured 5,000 doses of vaccines in an interview with the Adamson News. Only 2,500 doses were released for the first phase of vaccination.

He also shared he immediately contacted Office for Athletic Development Director Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM to inquire if CCBI could forge a partnership with the University and conduct the vaccination in-campus.

“Wala na akong ibang naisip eh, automatic na ‘yung Adamson University, considering I was formerly employed with Adamson as Chairperson of the Customs [Administration] Department. Immediately, I have in mind na the best venue would be Adamson,” he furthered.

Dr. Janice Ang, Director of the University’s Center for Health Services, lauded the project, describing it as a big blessing for AdU.

“With our employees, athletes, and outsourced personnel being vaccinated during this project, and others having already received theirs outside, we may need to evaluate if at least 70% of our employees have been jabbed so that we can check if we’ve achieved potential herd immunity in our campus,” she said.

Mr. Carmona revealed there would be another round of vaccination, which will have 1,000 doses allocated for the AdU community. This will also be held in-campus given front liners’ approval with the location and AdU’s implemented scheme.

“The group of doctors [from] the City of Manila were really satisfied with the venue, and the system that we had here in Adamson, satisfied sila, maganda yung venue, [so we’ll be holding the second vaccine rollout here as well],” he said.

He then expressed thanks to the University, and its administrators led by University President Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM.

The second dose of vaccines is expected to be administered on the first week of August.

CCBI has also pledged to sponsor a week of the feeding program that the San Vicente de Paul Parish and AdU have been conducting for street dwellers in the vicinity.
