AdUNEST hosts 2021 Technopreneurship SummitDate Posted: July 1, 2021 at 10:06 AM AdU continues its webinars on technology innovation and commercialization, this time hosting the 2021 Technopreneurship Summit. The one-day online event held last May 21, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippine Association of Engineering Schools (PAES), Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), and Adamson University Technology Transfer Office (AdUTECH), encouraged businesses, start-ups and the academe in acquiring insights about overcoming challenges and embracing new opportunities. Remarks from Engr. Evelyn Raguindin, Dean of the AdU College of Engineering and PAES President, and Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, AdU President, kicked off the event. DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Pena then delivered a Keynote Speech before the proceedings continued to the AM session’s panel discussion featuring Accenture Managing Director Mr. Arvin Yason, Monde Nissin Chief Information and Learning Office Dr. Jenson Goh, and IdeaSpace & QBO Executive Director Ms. Katrina Chan. Engr. Alexa Ray Fernando, First Vice President of PAES, and Dean of the NU College of Engineering, served as the moderator. The afternoon session, meanwhile, began with a pitching session followed by parallel sessions divided into two groups for faculty members, two groups for students, one group for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and one for start-up businesses. Dr. Merlinda Palencia, COO of Envigor Natural Products Manufacturing Inc., and Dr. Kosuke Kato, Vice Director of Osaka University’s Social Innovation Division-Co-Creation Bureau, Dr. Dan Jeric Rustia, Post-Doctoral Fellow at the National Taiwan University, and Engr. Mark Angelo Purio, PhD Candidate in Kyushu Institute of Technology, AdU Faculty, and BIRDS4 Microsatellite Engineer, handled the faculty groups. Dr. Palencia and Dr. Kato discussed Research and Development Project Management and How to Build Spinoffs while Dr. Rusita and Engr. Purio talked about Introduction to Applying Artificial Intelligence in Modern Solutions and Pushing Research Frontiers: Space Technology. The discussions were moderated by PAES Secretary and Holy Angel University College of Engineering Dean Dr. Filipina de Guzman and AdU Mechanical Engineering Chair Engr. Arnaldo Valino. The students’ groups were presided by Swarm CEO and Founder Mr. Dexter Ligot-Gordon, GrocerGenie CEO and Founder Ms. Abbie Victorina, and IECEP Manila Auditor and Kyungpook National University (Korea) Researcher Dr. Ronnie Serfa Juan. Mr. Ligot-Gordon and Ms. Victorina shared their insights on What makes a successful pitch and their learnings in the Startup Journey. Dr. Juan, on the other hand, discussed Emerging Industrial 4.0 Technologies. PAES Vice President for Central Luzon and Saint Louis University School of Engineering and Architecture Dean Ms. Cynthia Posadas, and PAES Treasurer and Technological Institute of the Philippines College of Engineering and Architecture Dean Engr. Marianne Yumul were the moderators. AdU ITSO’s Head of Development Ms. Anna May Ramos and Cirrolytix Reseach Services Inc. Consultant Mr. Gabriel Kristopher Soong, talked about Intellectual Property and the Road to Recovery and Business Survival through digital Transformation in terms of MSMEs. Engr. Board of Investments-Industry Development Services Executive Director Ms. Ma. Corazon Dichosa and Startup Village Director Mr. Carlo Calimon headed discussions under Start-ups, specifically How to get more funding and When is it safe to scale or to pivot. Dr. Manuel Belino, Technical Chair of the CHED Mechanical Engineering and Senior Director for Engineering of FEU Institute of Technology, was the moderator. The event streamed via Zoom webinar and Zoom meeting, respectively, concluded with Closing Remarks by Dr. Venusmar Quevedo, AdU Vice President for Administrative Affairs and ITSO Manager.
