The University conferred degrees to 433 newly-minted Adamsonian graduates during the 34th Mid-year Commencement Exercises held virtually last February 19.

Fr. Libin Varghese, CM, who also graduated with a Master of Arts in Education major in School Administration and Supervision degree – Meritissimus, presided the Baccalaureate Mass at the University Chapel.

In his homily, the Campus Ministry Chaplain told his fellow graduates to celebrate the achievement but be ready of a ‘challenging future’.

“All of you are to be celebrated but, at the same time, be reminded that we have a challenging future ahead. Life outside the four walls of the classroom is really challenging but we can face it with determination and hard work,” he said. “Every degree that you earn becomes meaningful only when it makes better human beings; only when the degrees make you for a better qualified life.”

“Everybody has an opinion and suggestions to make in your life but remember, when you listen to the opinions and suggestions of others. Listen to your heart, to listen to the voice of your conscience so that you become true to yourself -- you become sincere to yourself because it's your life, it's your future and finally it's you who design your destiny,” he continued

The presentation of degrees led by Assoc. Prof. Emilia Vicencio, University Registrar, and the conferment of degrees by Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, quickly followed. The College of Engineering (237) tallied the most number of Mid-year graduates, followed by Architecture (50), and Business Administration (43). The Graduate School (40), Education and Liberal Arts (25), Pharmacy (12), Science (11), Law (10) and Nursing (5) round up the total.

Joaquine Carlo Valdez from BSBA Operations Management delivered the address of petition.

Ar. Roberto S. Sac, an alumnus from the College of Architecture, Class of 1978, and current chairperson of the Professional Regulation Commission Board of Architecture (PRC-Arch) was this year’s Guest of Honor and Speaker.

Telling his own success story to the new graduates, he encouraged them foloow the rites’ theme Faith, Fortitude, and Foresight.

“Looking back now, I can say the probinsyano architecture student had gone a long way. What I am today compared from where I was 40 years ago is partly the fruit of strong faith in the benevolence of God, in the goodness of my family, and the undying support of my community,” he said.

The distribution of diploma, and academic and special awards led by Dr. Catherine Castaneda quickly followed Ar. Sac’s address. Rena Louise Salanguit from the Electronics Engineering Department, the lone Academic Merit Awardee from the undergraduate programs, gave the Address of Thanks.

Engr. Hubert Temprosa, President of the Adamson University Alumni Association, Inc. led the alumni oathtaking before the rites ended with the singing of the Adamson University Hymn.

Graduation ceremonies for the Mid-year batch were supposed to be held this January but issues brought by the Covid-19 pandemic forced the organizers to move it to a later date despite having the said event online.
