“Follow Jesus through Mary”: prelate reminds in Miraculous Medal Feast

Most Rev. Teodoro Bacani, Jr. encouraged churchgoers to continue following the Words of God amid the pandemic and calamities that have hit the country the past months.
In his homily during the Concelebrated Mass in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal last November 27 at the Saint Vincent de Paul Parish, the Diocese of Novaliches Bishop Emeritus reminded the community that wearing the Miraculous Medal is a sign of devotion to Mary, the Immaculate Conception, and her Son.
“Ngayon po ay hilingin natin kay Hesus sa panahon ng pandemyang ito -- Isuot po natin itong medalyang ito, hindi bilang agimat kundi bilang tanda na tayo ay nais mamintuho, magmahal, sumunod kay Maria, na lagi namang pinasusunod tayo kay Hesus; “Do whatever He tells you,” he said.
The prelate also alluded to the story of Jesus’ first miracle of transforming water into wine, reminding the community that Jesus, too, heeds the wishes of His mother.
This year’s celebration had the theme Mary's Unending Grace, Protection, and Intercession in This Conflictual Time of the Pandemic.
In his homily during the feast day’s online mass celebrated at 12 noon, Fr. Joel Rescober, CM, SVP Parish Priest, highlighted the importance of faith amid the uncertainties brought by the pandemic.
"The Miraculous Medal is a testament to Mary’s Unending Grace, Protection, and Intercession in times of moral, social & global conflicts & disasters, such as this recent pandemic. Mary, more than any mother, is highly concerned about the welfare of her children. Through the ages, she has appeared especially in difficult times to assure us of her protection," he said.
Meanwhile, Fr. Genaro Diwa, Minister of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission echoed Bp. Bacani on the use of the Miraculous Medal – to show faith and be part of the faith.
“Wag niyo pong kalilimutan, kapag sinusuot natin ang Miraculous Medal, ipinahihiwatig natin sa lahat: tayo ay kabilang ng Mahal na Birhen, nakikipagtungali sa lahat ng uri ng kasamaan sa ating lipunan at sa bayan natin ngayon. ‘yan ang isang katotohanan ng Miraculous Medal, kabilang tayo sa Mahal na Birhen at ipinagmamalaki natin na sa buhay natin ang kasamaan ay walang lugar.”
