Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM encouraged the Filipino Vincentian Family to continue imparting the joy of service in his allocution during an online Prayer Vigil in honor of Saint Vincent de Paul last September 26.
The Adamson University President used the life and works of Vincent de Paul as example for the community to emulate, especially during the time of pandemic.
“From the life of Vincent, we learned that his initiatives took some time to develop. When a course of action presented itself, he took extra care not to proceed with it if he felt it was a result of his own urgings. Only when he began to see the work as God’s action for the poor did he proceed, and proceed he did with persistence,” Fr. Manimtim said.
“The reason for our action is not to shame the wise and the powerful of our times. We act simply because we cannot abandon people in situations of need.”
He also mentioned Saint Vincent’s profound passion for charity, and love for the poor which was the foundation of the Vincentian charism.
“From the way we call ourselves, it is clear that what really matters is not the name that we bear but the work that we do,” he said.
With the coming day being the feast of Saint Vincent, Fr. Manimtim also reminded the Filipino Vincentian Family that the most fitting way of celebrating the former’s life is to act.
“This mindset applies to the way we celebrate Saint Vincent. It is understandable that in our celebration we give place to remembering and glorifying the deeds and spirit of Saint Vincent… [but] our most fitting celebration are the works that we do,“ he said. “[W]hat do we continue doing for the least of our brothers and sisters?”
“We have learned that if we honestly help the least of our brothers and sisters, people will come out in generosity to join our work. It is with joy that we share with these persons, those who join us in help and the persons we help the celebration of our father, Saint Vincent.”
