CoViD crisis forces AdU to hibernate offices

The blow of the economic bug that came with the novel coronavirus pandemic has slowly hampered University operations, including its workforce.

Despite AdU’s attempt to retain all employees and cover their salaries during the pandemic and its ensuing lockdowns and quarantines, certain issues have forced the University to cut down office operations.

The University has already hibernated the Cultural Affairs Office (CAO), Office for Institutional Development (OIA), Continuing Professional Development Department (CPDD), and Office for University Relations (OUR), as well as merged the Office for Vincentian Identity and Mission (OVIM) with the Campus Ministry.

“We anticipate even greater challenges this new school year. We expect a dramatic decline in student enrollment due to the untold hardships faced by many in the wake of CoViD-19,” Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, Adamson U President, wrote in a memorandum dated July 10.

“[T]here is the sudden shift of the school to flexible learning as mandated by CHED and required by national regulations where many of our students are not prepared to venture into,” he added.

He also reiterated that the suspension of work is temporary, and will only involve personnel who will not be in regular use or with hardly any work demand in the First Semester of SY 2020-2021.

“We have explored many options against this recourse, however, implementing the temporary reduction of workforce is unavoidable,” Fr. Manimtim said.

“While we would like to maintain the status quo and see everyone continue their work without disruption, we are obliged to adopt these labor austerity measures to sustain the operations of the school.”

Office heads of hibernated offices were either put into temporary work suspension (OIA and OUR), retired (CAO), or transferred into another post (OVIM).
