The University has decided to waive the tuition and other fees increase for School Year 2020-2021, owing to difficulties brought by the CoVid-19 pandemic to students and their families.

In a memorandum released last May 22, the Office of the Vice President for Financial Affairs (VPFA) headed by Fr. Rafael Eloriaga, CM, announced the development, also adding that the University will also implement a lighter mode of tuition payment, and will offer refunds to graduating students.

“Understanding the difficult times many are going through during this period of pandemic, we stand in solidarity with our students and their families in facing the challenges and anxieties of these trying times,” the VPFA wrote.

According to the memo, payment of remaining balance will be spread out into three equal instalments through the Prelim, Midterm, and Finals periods of SY 2020-2021. This supersedes an initial memo deferring the payment of outstanding tuition for the Second Semester of SY 2019-2020 until the first day of enrollment of the incoming year’s first semester.

Meanwhile, Midyear Term enrollees may still enroll without paying the Second Term balance, which will also be transferred, and may be settled with bills of the succeeding year. The downpayment for enrollment was cut by half to P5,000.

Qualified graduating students were also offered a chance to apply for online refund beginning on June 1. However, those who opt to get a cash or cheque refund were advised to standby as on-campus transactions may only be done once quarantines have been lifted.

The University’s request for an eight percent tuition and other fees increase was approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
But as ‘expression of support’ to its students, administrators wrote to CHED last May 4 stating its intent to cancel the already approved request. It was acknowledged three days after.
