Chemical Engineering alumnus and healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez passed away last February 4 after collapsing during a tennis game. He was 52.

Deedee Siytangco, spokesperson of the Missionaries of Mary Mother of the Poor and a friend of Fr. Suarez, confirmed the priest’s death saying that he was declared dead at the Asian Hospital by 4 in the afternoon.

According to Siytangco, Suarez was competing on a tennis tournament he organized at the Alabang Country Club and was on the third set of his game against a fellow priest when he collapsed.

He would have celebrated his 53rd birthday on February 7.

Suarez graduated from the University with a degree in Chemical Engineering on 1988 but later on entered the Companions of the Cross order to pursue priesthood.

In his vocation, Suarez became famous for his healing ministries and founded the Mother Mary of the Poor Healing Ministry.

He was also chosen as one of the recipients of the 75 Outstanding Alumni of the University last 2009.
