The College of Engineering in partnership with National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) have successfully conducted the 2019 Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Camp in Automation and Mechatronics last November 1 to 3, 2019 at NTUT Campus in Taipei, Taiwan.
Fifteen engineering students, together with their faculty-mentors, were selected to represent the University on the camp which had the Adamsonian student participants team-up with NTUT students and develop a prototype using Arduino microcontroller and set of sensors to enhance smart manufacturing.
Event co-organizer Dr. Chih Hung Li, Associate Dean of College of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering of NTUT, lauded the Adamsonian delegation saying projects have improved this year.
“I was impressed by the projects made by the students. I can say that projects presented this year were better than last year,” he said. Dr.Li co-chaired the event with Engr. Antonio Doroliat, a PhD student and former chair of Adamson’s Mechanical Engineering department.
Engr. Evelyn Q. Raguindin, Dean of the college of Engineering saw the camp as the first step of the college towards student mobility and internationalization.
“We are planning that seminars, fieldtrips and on-the-job trainings of Engineering students can now be done out of the country” she added.
The participants were also treated to a cultural tour of Taiwan including trips to historical museums, local restaurants and landmarks, and a laboratory tour and walkthrough around the NTUT campus.
Student participants of the said event include Andrea Maurisse Calong, Janina Manimtim and Mark Noe Christian Caadyang of the Computer Engineering (CpE) Department; Jona Marie Miaral, Gabrielle Anne Villacarlos, Jay Bhie Santos and Floyd Escarlan of the Electronics Engineering (EcE) Department; Vergel Valera and Angelica Mamangun of the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department; Bethany Laryssa Wong, Hyacinth Pineda and Alyysa Ira Manuel of the Industrial Engineering (IE) Department; and Ma. Joana Therese Santiago, Kim Kirby Quiocson and Peter Dion Alcantara of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
Engr. Yolanda Austria, CpE Chair, Engr. Alain Bernard Ranola (EcE), Engr. Davie Jone Niverca, Engineering Laboratory Head (EE), Engr. Lourdes Lasian, IE Chair and Engr. Arnaldo Valino, ME Chair, accompanied the student delegates as faculty-mentors. The Office of University Relations (OUR) was represented by Mr. Rudolf L. Arriola.
The PBL camp is an innovative educational activity where students are guided to succesfully accomplish a task which includes coding, assembly, installation & wiring, troubleshooting, and commissioning of a system using a problem-based and multi-disciplinary approach. Engr. Davie Jone N. Niverca
