The Soaring Falcons remained in the hunt for a Final Four slot after --- victory over the NU Bulldogs, 78-52, in the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament, Saturday, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Adamson banked on a balanced offensive attack punctuated by a masterful defensive performance in the fourth canto, posting a 24-6 quarter score.
Jerrick Ahanmisi led five Soaring Falcons who scored in double digits while Simon Camacho had 11 markers and six boards for the Falcons.
AP Manlapaz led Adamson’s bench explosion scoring 14 points of the team’s 40 bench points as Jerom Lastimosa posted a near double-double of 10 points and 9 assists. Lenda Douanga had 11 points and 15 boards.
Soaring Falcons coach Franz Pumaren, who remained on the sidelines even after undergoing an operation to remove kidney stones last Tuesday, lauded his team’s performance.
“We needed this win. Every game for us now is important. The bench really stepped up,” he said.
The outspoken coach also praised Manlapaz who scored 10 of his total points in the fourth quarter.
“Probably among my players, he’s the best athlete. He just doesn’t realize it, "If he will play his full potential, he can really help this team. He can outjump anybody and he’s smart enough.”
The Adamson mentor, though, had reservations for his prized recruit from the school’s high school program.
“Parang weather ito eh, you don’t know when it will rain. He played well sa UP, then guessing game again if he can play this good. Sometimes just like a lawyer, maraming rason ito eh. He just has to focus and really make sure that the bench, we need them for us to be successful.”
The Falcons try to soar high again as they face the second-seeded UP Fighting Maroons this Saturday at the Ynares Centre in Rizal.
