OUR hosts 6th Prexy Cup; Abiola FC retains crown

Adamsonian football enthusiasts got together at the SV Covered Court as the Office of University Relations (OUR), led by its director Sr. Maruja Padre Juan, MSCS, hosted the sixth installment of the Presidential Football Cup last October 9.

Last year’s titlist Abiola FC scored back-to-back championships while Blood and Bones and Palung-Palo Football Club finished first and second runners-up in the tournament that featured nine teams this year.

Philemon Soji Okemakinde of Abiola FC emerged as this year’s MVP and Golden Boot winner while Blood and Bones booters Xi Luo and Xiang Yu received the Best Midfielder and Best Defender award. Kouadjo Kounalesse Nayo was chosen as the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper.

Diversity was in full display during the event with the teams being composed of international students from different African and Asian nations.

Abiola FC had Nigerians, Rwandese, Beninese; Blood & Bones had Chinese, Sudanese, Nigerian, Myanmar, Eritrean; IP Men were composed of Japanese, Rwandese, Eritrean, Sudanese; Kamikaze PFC had Eritreans, Japanese, Sudanese, Jordanian, Filipino players; Fusion had a Papua New Guineans, Syrian, Myanmar, Sudanese, Ethiopian, Yemeni composition; and United Tigers were Pakistanis, Congolese, Rwandese, Eritrean, Mozambican and Filipino.

Palung Palo Football Club were all Filipinos, while Forca Lafaek also had an all Timorese line-up. Niugini Kumul was also composed of Papua New Guineans.

According to the OUR, the tournament, which began last 2014, aims to foster unity and promote sportsmanship among international students, as well as be an avenue for their sports expression.

The Presidential Cup is done in collaboration with the Philippine Football Federation, Teen Azkals Football Foundation, Kaya Football Club, and the Philippine Youth Football Club.
