The University has remained true to its teachings to reach out and give ways to break the cycle of poverty that has plagued Filipino communities for ages.
Numerous colleges and departments, led by the Integrated Community Extension Services (ICES), held this year’s Summer School of Life Program (SSLP) from May 7-8 in various venues inside the campus.
The SSLP is an initiative that teaches numerous technical and practical skills to members of chosen community-partners of the university, and conduct seminars on disaster preparedness, personality development and good governance.
In a research presented by Dr. Joseph Balaoing during the culminating event of the program, SSLP was deemed a success after data showed that it was rated ‘very good’ by the communities it served.
Now on its ninth year, it has also yielded results such as the reduced idleness of citizens and the rise of livelihood initiatives within the immediate community. It has also produced numerous facilitators wherein two batches were again sworn into oath during the said culminating activity.
Participating colleges and departments include the College of Architecture, College of Engineering, College of Education and Liberal Arts, College of Pharmacy, Basic Education, Senior High School, Guidance Office and the Library.
Salamat, maraming salamat
Gratitude flooded the OZ Audio-Visual Room as members of the community-partners of the university repeatedly gave their thanks, singling out Fr. Atilano Fajardo, C.M., the ICES director.
As the looming rain awaits outside the venue, appreciation of memorable experience had already rained inside as chuckles of both teachers and students filled the room.
With another SSLP program looming its culmination, lives were again changed and it was done well.
SSLP is an annual community development program spearheaded by the ICES Office aiming to provide members of its community partners with skills leading to income opportunities, as well as uplift their outlooks in life.
