Eight Australian visitors and their Filipino priest-companion came to Adamson last January 14, 2019 to have their orientation and eventual immersion in a relocation site that has long been a beneficiary community of the school’s Integrated Community Extension Services (ICES). The visitors were members of a team from the Diocese of Lismore in Australia that included Fr. Fred Basco, parish priest; Helen Hunter, team leader; Tony Hunter, a school principal; Kathy Warby, a secondary school teacher; Janine Sawtell, a secondary school teacher; Katie Rose, a primary school teacher; Amber Scanes, youth ministry officer; and Georgia Hickling, youth ministry officer.
After making a courtesy call on the university president, they were given a tour of the museum, the Basic Education Department and the chemistry laboratory. The ICES staff then briefed them on the different projects and activities their office and the university have been undertaking in the relocated community.
The visitors proceeded to Cabuyao the following day to start their immersion program. Assigned to foster families, they spent four days experiencing the day-to-day life of the community and of their respective hosts, dialoging with them and taking part in their household activities.
After the community immersion ended on January 17, the ICES staff brought them to Pansol, Laguna for their culminating activity. There they shared their individual experiences as well as the valuable lessons learned from spending time with families.
The visitors returned to Australia on January 20. The immersion program of the Diocese of Lismore in the Philippines started in 2016. It is a collaborative effort between ICES and the Diocese of Lismore
