ITSO officer, Pharmacy faculty attend IP course

Ms. Anna May Ramos, IP Officer, and Ms. Joanne Manlusoc, Pharmacy faculty, participated in the National Patent Drafting Course at the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) Multipurpose Hall at the Intellectual Property Center in McKinley Hill, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City last October 8-12, 2018. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with IPOPHL, conducted the training; providing assistance was the Japan Patent Office.
The five-day training-course was conducted in line with the Enabling Intellectual Property (IP) Environment Project (EIPE) of WIPO. Members of the Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSOs) who are considered to be part of the EIPE project were the target participants for the workshop.
The objective of the course was to increase patent drafting skills for the staff of selected EIPE institutions in the Philippines for the provision of effective innovations support services. Each participant was asked to bring at least two or more technologies for patent-invention filing to be drafted and eventually filed with IPOPHL.
Among the topics discussed were The National Patent System and Procedure in the Philippines: Essentials for Patent Drafting; University Research and Patenting Strategies; and Introduction and Theory of Patent Claims – Protection of Inventive Concepts. Exercises on drafting patent applications were also conducted.
