The Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons survived the thriller rally of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 96-83, in their second-round matchup in the ongoing UAAP basketball wars at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City last November 7.
After series of heavy offensive attacks by Final Four contender UST, the San Marcelino Squad showcased the ‘press defense’ which coach Franz Pumaren wanted to execute.
“The players were so, you know, gigil in trying to get a score and dispose of UST right away; and masyado kaming tight in the first half,” coach Franz explained.
The Falcons are second seed in the team standings, with a 9-3 win-loss record. A win against UE will earn them a twice-to-beat advantage.
In their last two games, the Falcons lost to the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 62-48, who exacted revenge for their first round defeat, during their November 4 encounter at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo, Rizal; but the Falcons beat UP at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City last October 28.
