AdU administrators attend intellectual property workshop

Administrators from Adamson University participated in an intellectual property workshop held at the Manila Peninsula Hotel’s Conservatory last October 22-23, 2018. Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, University President; Dr. Venusmar C. Quevedo, VP Administrative Affairs; Engr. Noe D. Enriquez, head of Innovation Technology Support Office (ITSO) Marketing; and Ms. Anna Ramos, head of ITSO’s IP Development Section attended the workshop titled The WIPO/FIT Australia National Workshop: Bridging the Gap between National Academic Institutions and Industry in the Philippines. It was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and with the financial support of the Australian Funds-in-Trust (FIT).
The workshop was envisioned to stir up collaborations between academic institutions and industry players to create a research environment with intellectual property (IP) as key component. It particularly aimed to help develop business solutions through capacity building in areas such as IP management, IP Valuation and Technology Transfer.
The event was formally opened by the keynote speakers, namely, Atty. Teodoro C. Pascua, Deputy Director General, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL); Mr. Kieran Power, Assistant Director, International Policy and Cooperation IP Australia; and Ms. Olga Spasic, Counsellor, Knowledge Transfer and IP Commercialization, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Support Division, Transition and Developed Countries Department (TDC), WIPO.
Discussions in Day 1 focused on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME), mainly their procedure and support mechanism for use of intellectual property (IP), enhancement of business model and reputation, IP Asset Management for stronger competitiveness among MSMEs and IP valuation of technology based on IP. In line with this, industry partners were paired up with the various MSMEs.
Day 2 focused on bridging the gap between academic institutions and industry by having the academe present the IP portfolio to industry partners. To further enhance the experience, simulation activity of negotiation between the academe and industry was implemented.
