Coming on the heels of a much-savored win by the Adamson Soaring Falcons men’s basketball team over the Ateneo Blue Eagles, the inauguration of a new dormitory building was another timely boost to the morale of AdU athletes.
Two days after the opening of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81, Adamson University held the inauguration and blessing of Falcon’s Nest 2, the spanking new two-story building for male athletes last September 10, 2018. Joining in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, Metro Stonerich Corp. executives Engr. Ibrahim “Bong” Nuño and wife Yasmin, Engr. Maximillian Quintos, Engr. Ferdinand Villanueva and Mr. Eliseo Aurellado. The building stands at the former Rustia compound at the back of Marian Center.
In his Welcome Remarks, Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM, director of the Office for Athletics and Recreation, said that “if yesterday’s game was our statement to the UAAP, this dormitory is our statement of alagang Adamson as we provide our athletes an accommodation better than the room of the university’s president.” He expressed appreciation for the generosity of alumni, especially Engr. Nuño and family, and the late Engr. Francis Miguel of AIM-Global. He also thanked Akari Philippines, a major sponsor of some of Adamson’s sports programs.
Engr. Nuño, an alumni and the president and managing director of the construction firm Metro Stonerich, started his own message by saying that he was “so happy with the performance that we saw yesterday” (referring to the men’s basketball team). “What a fitting day for us to inaugurate this after winning technically and literally the championship,” he joked. He thanked his partners and colleagues at Metro Stonerich for supporting the project and seeing it through to completion. He mentioned in particular Archt. Anne Paraon and Archt. Juinio.
Adamson University President Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM explained that “what we are inaugurating today is not a momentary support to our players. It is part of what the Adamson community would provide our athletes. We would like our athletes not only to perform in their sports but be proud students of Adamson University. You are made scholars by the university because of your playing; we would like you to be scholars because you prepare well for your future by your studies.” He also acknowledged Engr. Nuno, his family and the company he has set up for his generous contribution. “Now I can let it be known that the building of Falcon Nest 2 has cost over Php18 Million; more than Php13 Million of that has been offered by Metro Stonerich,” Fr. Manimtim revealed.
The blessing of the entire building was done by Fr. William Azul Encelan, CM, Fr. Agustin Advincula, CM, Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM, Fr. Rock Joseph Enriquez, CM, Fr. Andrew Bayal, CM and Fr. Manimtim himself. A marker was also unveiled after the blessing.
Falcon’s Nest 2 has 30 airconditioned rooms, of which 10 have three beds and 18 with with three double deck beds; each room has a restroom. In addition, there is one PT room, one computer room and a room for the caretaker. A spacious lobby can be found in the first and second floors. The dormitory will house the male players for lawn tennis, volleyball, baseball, basketball (junior and senior) and pep squad.
Fr. Aldrin urged the occupants to “show your gratitude to our donor by maintaining the immaculate beauty of the place…”
