UAAP Season 81 opens at the MOA Arena

A star-studded opening ceremonies of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 was held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay last September 8, 2018. This year’s host is National University (NU).
Themed It all begins here, UAAP Season 81 had an enthralling opening ceremonies because of its invited guests and performers. NU gave spectators and athletes a memorable experience by featuring famous sports and music personalities – the most prominent of which was Stephen Curry, three-time NBA champion. As Curry walked up the stage to lead the student athletes in their Oath of Sportsmanship, the crowd went wild and strained for a better view of the global basketball icon. The other celebs were James Reid, the Korean singer Minzy, and the Filipino band Spongecola.
“It was amazing, it was grand they brought up a lot of stars,” Dr. Michael M. Alba, president of Far Eastern University (FEU) remarked. FEU was last year’s host school.
“Really I’m lost for words. It was electric; I mean it was outstanding, talagang interactive pati yung lights, the use of technology. I mean, it put more pressure on next year’s opening so good luck to Ateneo, I’m really lost for words so congratulations to NU,” UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene “Rebo” Saguisag commented about the opening ceremonies.
After the opening, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and the University of the East Red Warriors faced up for their first game of the season. The match between University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers and the National University Bulldogs followed. Mervin Vince C. Lopez
