Adamson University holds Summer School of Life 2018

Teaching people skills that will help them break free from the cycle of poverty has always been the hallmark of the university’s outreach endeavors.
Last April 5-6, Adamson University conducted the Summer School of Life 2018 in different laboratories and locations inside the campus. A project that was started by the Integrated Community Extension Services (ICES) eight years ago in collaboration with certain colleges and departments, the Summer School of Life conducts short-term practical courses for the members of the university’s adopted communities. Faculty and staff with their respective fields of specialization served as volunteer facilitators in the trainings and workshops.
The College of Architecture offered a workshop on Perspective Plotting and AutoCad while the College of Business Administration gave training for community-based administrators. The College of Pharmacy for its part offered a lecture-demo on dosage formulation while the Information Technology and Information System Department conducted a community-based Secretarial program.
The College of Engineering held various technical vocational seminars. The Civil Engineering Department gave a Construction Safety program while the Computer Engineering Department conducted a seminar on Computer Hardware, Troubleshooting, and Networking. The Electrical Engineering Department gave an Electrical System Design seminar and the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department presented a talk on Basic Electricity and Electronics and Renewable Resources. The Mechanical Engineering department conducted a talk on Electro-Pneumatics.
Aside from the colleges and departments, offices also gave basic trainings. The Library Services gave training for volunteer community librarians.
Aside from the two-day seminar, the College of Science conducted an Environmental Management Seminar in the Province of Romblon from April 10-11, while the College of Education and Liberal Arts together with the Basic Education Department held a training for Day Care teachers last April 18-19.
The Summer School Life is an annual event designed to provide participants not only with practical skills but also with a sense of confidence, self-sufficiency, and leadership.
