Students’ researches receive recognition in regional conference

Chemical Engineering students who attended a regional conference in Sabah, Malaysia gained not only additional knowledge but also came back home bringing recognition for the researches they presented.

Two out of the six researches presented by fifth-year chemical engineering students at the 5th Regional Conference on Campus Sustainability held at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah in Kota Kinabalu last March 20-22, 2018 were hailed as the Best Paper.

The first study was titled Biodiesel Production from Spent Coffee Grounds using Direct Transesterification Process, by Daniel M. Cusi, Mizzarah M. Mateo, Nicole DC. Paulino, Mark R. Plata, Gayle C. Tuazon.

The other one was titled The Removal of Copper (CU) II and Lead (PB) II from Aqueous Solution using Fullers’ Earth (FE) and Fullers’ Earth - Immobilized NZVI by Adsorption, by Marvie Christian C. Balberan, Nurul Amal Janna D. Bederi, Manases G. Malacas, Chriztian Jay G. Ramos, Marvin A. Rato, Allen Grace D. Salazar, together with their adviser, Engr. Erison C. Roque, chairperson of the Chemical Engineering Department of Adamson.

These two researches were among the seven papers that were named as the Best Paper.  

Climate Action and Campus Sustainability was the theme of the conference, which aimed “to provide a platform for the stakeholders in campus sustainability to discuss the latest development in climate change and its impact towards sustainability in educational institutions.” Adamson University hosted the 3rd Regional Conference on Campus Sustainability back in April 2016.
