The Adamson University community, still riding high on the crest of its Pep Squad’s championship win in the cheerdance competition, went soaring into glide mode when the baseball and softball teams reaped back-to-back championships in the UAAP’s softball and baseball finals last March 16 and 20, 2018 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
To celebrate these two victories, made even more phenomenal with the softball team’s 8-peat crown, the Office of the President and the Office for Athletics and Recreation (OAR) spearheaded a Bonfire and Boodle Fight at the SV building front grounds last March 23, 2018.
The celebration started at 6:00 p.m. with the opening prayer led by by Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM, OAR director and one of AdU’s two representatives to the UAAP Board of Managing Directors. University President Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM gave opening remarks that acknowledged the remarkable feat of the teams’ coaches and players.
To enliven the crowd, the AdU Pep Squad performed a special number only a reigning champion team in cheerdance can pull off. Baseball head coach Orlando Binarao, one of Adamson’s ten great athletes, delivered a message and presented his players. Multi-titled softball head coach Ana Santiago also delivered a message and introduced her athletes. The audience, made up of administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and guests, responded with a cheerfully appreciative applause. Then, Lester Son Ramos, a student assistant from the Information Technology Center, performed a pulsating fire dance.
The highlight of the evening was the lighting of the bonfire and unveiling of two giant tarp banners to the beat of the drums of the Adamson University Drummers and Yellers Online (AUDYO). As an expression of solidarity, a boodle fight joined in by everyone capped the celebration.
With the way championships are piling up, Adamson is hopeful that its other teams, emulating softball’s dynastic dominance, will likewise bring home their own trophies.
The Adamson community warmly congratulates both teams and thanks all those who supported them one way or another.
