Assistant Professor Riel Anthony T. Oli of the College of Pharmacy (CoP), was one the invited plenary speakers in the Philippine Society of Hospital Pharmacists’ (PSHP) 56th Founding Anniversary and National Convention 2018 held in CAP Convention Center, Camp John Hay, Baguio City last February 28 to March 3, 2018. The anniversary/convention theme was Hospital Pharmacy Practice: Skyward to Optimum Patient Care.
Oli’s topic was Biosafety in the Pharmacy, which dealt with practices and procedures that need to be refined by hospital pharmacists to prevent microorganisms and chemicals from causing harm to everyone in the institution. The Adamson University delegation also included Ms. Angela Perpetua DC Munnariz, faculty member and chief pharmacist of Army General Hospital, and Ms. Sarah Joy E. Gaspar and Ms. Sandra E. Laguimun, both MS Pharmacy students at Adamson.
Mr. Oli was sent by the CoP to join the Philippine Advanced Biosafety Officers Training (PhABOT) program with oversight by the U. S. Department of State – Biosecurity Engagement Program. He is one of only two pharmacists in the country who are Certified Biosafety Officers (CBOs). Because of his active membership in the Biorisk Association of the Philippines, Inc. (BRAP), founding president Dr. Martin Moreno recommended him to deliver the topic in the convention.
More than a thousand hospital and clinical pharmacists from the Philippines attended the four-day conference. Other than safety in the workplace, sessions about enhancing competencies, evidence-based medicine, pharmacotherapy, quality patient care, and clinical pharmacy also took place during the conference.
