Adamson University, through the Integrated Community Extension Services (ICES), hosted the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines - National Capital Region (CEAP-NCR) Advocacy Training for Catholic educators at the Ozanam Audio-Visual Room last February 27, 2018.
With its aim to uplift and widen the reach of the battle cry and advocacy Huwag Kang Magnakaw (Thou Shalt Not Steal), the training was in the form of a recollection-seminar for selected faculty members of Catholic schools in NCR. Most of the participants were teachers of Christian Living and other related subjects. Coming from all over the Metro, the educators were trained to be able to experience and impart the Huwag Kang Magnakaw advocacy to their respective schools and classes.
Headed by ICES director Fr. Atilano G. Fajardo, CM, the recollection-seminar aimed not only to help the educators teach their students that stealing happens even in the smallest and simplest ways but to help them instill honesty, integrity, and generosity in their students’ lives. It focused on helping the participants deeply understand and appreciate the Huwag Kang Magnakaw advocacy in their personal relations with themselves, their families, with others, and with God. Through the seminar, they and their students will hopefully recognize that each one contributes to the present situation, and make a resolution or commitment to uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and generosity in their way of life.
The recollection-seminar is a part of a series meant to promote the Huwag Kang Magnakaw advocacy in every Catholic school and community to help end the culture of stealing and corruption.
The HKM movement and advocacy was initiated by Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle to strengthen the fight against corruption and cheating by mobilizing the faithful and the entire Filipino nation through a simple act of wearing a white shirt bearing the seventh commandment. Adamson University was the first to respond to this call by launching the movement after a Mass at the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Church last September 26, 2014.
