Being a hero is not in reach for the majority of us people, but the quote stated above specifically reminds us that we are able to be of boundless help and support to others by aiding them with their specific needs and necessities, in this case, for the people who are in need of blood in order to efficiently suffice and boost their quality of life. In observation, the Adamson University Biology Society (AUBS) officers organizing the event saw students, faculty members and workers from various colleges, programs, nationalities, and age within the University are interested, determined and committed to donate their blood for the purpose of aiding people who are in need of it to supply their biological function as these people are potent stewards serving the community and the country. Hence, the Adamson University Community greatly manifests the Vincentian teaching and spirit. Last September 4, 2019 (WEDNESDAY), the Adamson University Biology Society in coordination with The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) (Photograph A) together with the Saint Therese Clinic of Adamson University held the first Blood Letting Activity entitled: “BloodLines: The Art of Blood Giving for Life Saving”. The significance of the event was to raise awareness in the Adamson University Community with regards to the social and biological health advantages of blood donation, specifically addressing health concerns of those people who are in need blood transfusion. Before the final initiation of the event, The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) arrived safely at Adamson University, Wednesday morning at exactly 8:45 AM. Afterwards, the ST Clinic, The National Kidney and Transplant Institute, and Adamson University Biology Society prepared the materials to be utilized such as the chairs and tables for consultation and registration, beds, bedsheets and pillows for blood transfusion, and the drinks and food remedy after donation. In addition, the main role of the Adamson University Biology Society officers and members in the Blood Letting event is to foster and encourage the whole Adamson Community to donate blood and assists The National Kidney and Transplant Institute in coordinating blood donors to their respective places. In this way, the miracle of unity and camaraderie is granted to the people who helped and donated, as they have prayed and worked for it in the Lord's path and as their hearts are interweaved together in unity. On the other hand, at around 9:15 AM, numerous students, faculty members and workers from various departments and colleges (Photograph C) began to register and donate their blood in order to help those people who are in need of blood transfusion and to support the quality of life of those necessitates it. Moreover, it is quite important to notify and address the conditions of donors after blood donation as donors may experience vertigo or dizziness due to the reduction of bodily fluids circulating within the body. Thankfully, the people who have experience dizziness after 15 minutes were aided and these people were able to perform normal tasks after blood donation with precautionary measures. In addition, it was thoughtful and kind for The National Kidney Transplant Institute to give teddy bears as an incentive to people who have donated their blood for the sake of saving others. Furthermore, foods and drinks are given after the donors have given their blood. Specifically, these materials are essential remedies for sufficing the decrease of bodily fluids and biological materials of the donors in order give them the boost up of energy to perform their light activities within the day. Moreover, some of the Adamson University Biology Society officers and members had an exchange shifts depending on the availability in class hours and came back afterwards. The afternoon shift began at 12:00 PM and ended at 5:00 PM. However, since there are lot of students who are willing to donate blood, the overall shift in the afternoon ended at 7:00pm. The Adamson University Biology Society officers and members assisted, accompanied, supported and motivated first time and regular blood donors by giving them the discreet procedures for blood donation and the cautionary measures before and after donation. The event ended particularly at 5:00 PM and the officers and members aided The National Kidney and Transplant Institute in clearing the rubbish produced in the ST Quadrangle and bring the materials such as bed, bed sheets, pillows and other materials back to the NKTI Van. Convincingly, the Blood Letting Series 3 was a successful activity (Photograph E) through the support and coordination of all members and officers of the Adamson University Biology Society and coordinated with the National Kidney and Transplant Institute and Saint Theresa Clinic. Gratefully, The National Kidney and Transplant Institute have collected a total of 117 donors.
