Adamson University’s College of Law, through its dean Atty. Anna Maria D. Abad, and the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation jointly held a forum on extrajudicial killings. The gathering, titled Stop The Killings: Defend Our Youth! Justice For All Victims!, was held last October 10, 2017 at the Adamson University Theater. It was attended by students, professors, administrators and guests.

The speakers, presenters and performers were composed of martial law veterans, rights advocates and young activists that included cultural workers.

The program began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and invocation. Dr. Catherine Castaneda, VP for Academic Affairs, delivered the welcome remarks.

Next was the screening of three films. Antares Gomez Bartolome of the advocacy group Respond and Break the Silence Against the Killings (RESBAK) gave a brief introduction before the screening of the short films Burning Woman by Kiri LluchDalena, Panawagan sa Pagkilos by Isabelle Matutina, and HindiOke Stop the Killings: Christmas in Our Hearts.

The program then came to the lecture proper. Dean Abad introduced the three speakers. First to give a talk was Bonifacio Ilagan, a playwright and former political prisoner. Loretta Ann Rosales, martial law victim and former chair of the Commission on Human Rights was the second speaker followed by Atty. Gregorio Viterbo of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG). Hon. Chairman Jose Luis Gascon of the Human Rights Commission was invited but couldn’t make it.

An open forum followed the lectures, giving the audience a chance to ask questions to the speakers or express their own views on the topic.

Before the program officially ended, an oral poetry performance was presented by BAON Collective, a group known for its spoken word renditions.

The program ended with the closing remarks delivered by Ma. Cristina V. Rodriguez of the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation, Inc.
