Date Posted: December 17, 2015 at 02:20 PM

The Fr. Leandro Montañana, C.M. Library and Basic Education Department recently launched STARBOOKS, a new program done in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology’s Science Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), with a short program and orientation held at the BED High School Library last November 13, 2015.

The program began with an invocation led by Ms. Helen Soriano, High School Librarian and welcome remarks by Mr. Roel Selva, High School Science Area Leader. Giving a demo to the Adamson faculty members and staff were DOST-STII representatives Ms. Romelie Janelle Maranan, Information Officer 1; Mr. Lloyd Frederick Mandapat, Information Technology Staff; and Ms. Susana Abada, Librarian.

STARBOOKS stands for Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station. It is the first Philippine Science Digital Library that comprises at least 14,000 titles and 203 videos of digitized resources on science and technology. Some of its special features are its free and customizable system; a standalone information kiosk where information is readily available even without internet connection; and a one-stop science and technology information source from all over the world.

AdU and DOST-STII also signed the memorandum of understanding for STARBOOKS at the President’s Office on the same day. Ms. Soriano facilitated the collaboration, with the support and leadership of Ms. Helen De Castro, director of AdU’s Library Services Department, and Ms. Helen Ordoñez, head of the Library’s Readers’ Services section. This undertaking will complement the Library Services Department, particularly the High School Library, in fulfilling its mission to continually improve and upgrade its resources to support the information needs of the university.
