Industrial Engineering is a five-year degree program that offers an inter-disciplinary training aimed towards the optimization of systems involved in the transformation of resources into goods and services.
Today, the Industrial Engineering profession requires a higher level of competence and skill than was contemplated a few years back. In response to this challenge, the curriculum includes the art and applications of the system concept, the formulation, analysis, synthesis, and the solution of management problems through the use of quantitative approaches and of higher mathematics. The traditional tools of time study and value analysis as well as the study of basic management concepts are retained in the program.
The first two years give the basic knowledge and skills both in the field of humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and the physical sciences. These provide the student with opportunities to develop skills for problem identification, analysis, division making through the use of the scientific methods. It also develops his ability to synthesize abstract solutions into meaningful constructs, and to enhance his cognitive skills in applied mathematics and statistics.
The last three years offer courses for professional development in the areas of methods engineering, systems dynamics, operations research, and basic engineering sciences. To prepare the student for entry into the professional world, the curriculum offers the student electives from the four available modules: corporate planning, production, marketing, or administrative applications of the profession.
General Objectives
To prepare students for professional Industrial Engineering career including a leading role in the design, improvement and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, information, equipment and energy. Graduates of the curriculum must have specialized knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems.
Specific Objectives
A graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) Program:
