Minefield of Learning Comes to Engineering Studes in Alumni Forum

Date Posted: Jan 16, 2011 at 06:38:00 AM

A day out of the classroom proved to be beneficial for Mining, Geology, and Ceramics (MGC) Engineering students as a former Falcon flew back to the nest to share knowledge and wisdom, straight from the mouth of an expert.

Geologist Carlo D. Dayanghirang came to the OZ Conference Room last December 4, 2009 as the featured speaker for the Alumni Forum, a series of forums given by the Office for Institutional Advancement for the University’s undergraduate students. Engr. Dayanghirang is a BS Geology graduate (1976) of Adamson and has a master’s degree in Quarternary Geology, magna cum laude, from the Vrije University of Brussels in Belgium. He has lent his expertise in geology and environmental concerns to various local and international projects throughout a career spanning more than 30 years.

On that afternoon Engr. Dayanghirang presented challenging situations geologists and environmental safety experts may face at work to freshmen and sophomore MGC students, something that pushed the youngsters’ existing knowledge of geology, engineering, and the environment to the limits. Students were tickled with the tips and tricks of the trade that the geologist gave, a welcome addition to what has been taught to them in class.

The forum was capped by presenting a token of appreciation to Engr. Dayanghirang by officials from the College of Engineering led by Engr. Orlando Lopez, chair of the Civil Engineering Department. Yael Esperat
