Adamson University to confer honorary degree on DePaul University president

Date Posted: Jun 27, 2012 at 11:11:59 AM

Fr. Holtschneider

Adamson University is set to confer the degree of  Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa on Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., Ed.D., 11th president of DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, USA on July 16, 2012 at the Adamson University Theater.

Rev. Holtschneider, a Vincentian priest who heads the biggest Catholic university in America, is being given the honor in recognition of his countless contributions to education, particularly to Catholic education. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, summa cum laude, from Niagara University and has a doctorate degree in administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University. He has vast and valuable experience as an educator and administrator, having served in two other leading American Catholic universities. He has also led research studies that were national in scope as well as authored a book and numerous articles in American and Catholic higher education.

Fr. Holtschneider first came to Manila in May 2005 when he paid a quick visit to Adamson. With that visit, the bond between DePaul and Adamson became closer, resulting in later years to agreements and assistance which benefited Adamson in no small measure. Through the years, he has been sending over DePaul's administrators and faculty as resource persons and seminar facilitators to Adamson to participate in various activities and projects. When Adamson was hit by flash floods caused by typhoon Ondoy on September 26, 2009, DePaul’s Board of Trustees approved a donation from university funds upon his request. The amount was later used for the rehab of the SV gym.

He has received honorary degrees before, the Doctor of Humane Letters from the College of Saint Elizabeth on May 15, 2010 and the Doctor of Pedagogy from Niagara University on May 19, 2007. The one from Adamson University will be his third.
