The Biology Department successfully produced its first batch of scuba divers under its revised Physical Education subject incorporating basic swimming and scuba diving lessons in its curriculum. The on-site dive was done at the Sea Sport Resort and Dive Park in San Luis, Batangas and was supervised by Mr. Allan Lao, an alumnus of the university and a licensed scuba diver. The change of PE offering for the BS Biology program was initiated by department chairperson Dr. Ramon Luber in recognition of the need for knowledge in aquatic kinetics that would greatly help in the understanding and appreciation of the subjects Animal Taxonomy and Ecology. Through scuba diving, students can explore what is underneath the sea, which comprises 70% of the earth surface, and achieve full education in the varied world of biology.
The activity was made possible with the assistance given by Prof. Lorna Espeso, chairperson of the Physical Education Department.
