The Lady Falcons thwarted the championship aspirations of the Lady Eagles during Game 2 of the Finals of the Shakey’s V-League Season 5. The two majestic birds fought at The Arena, San Juan City. The result: a straight set of 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 last May 30 that ended the 1st Conference of the league.
“Actually, it was an easy game for AdU. Lamang kasi kami sa tao,” said the Lady Falcons head coach, Minerva Dulce Pante. “Nakakapuntos lang sila kapag si Soriano (team captain) at Em-orn (Thai guest player) ay nasa harap. Pero pag nasa likod na, ‘dun na sila nahihirapan,” she proudly stated.
Neriza Bautista, a guest player from Iloilo, flashed her smart and powerful play, which contributed 17 points for the Falcons. Her influential performance earned her the Season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP)—the second Adamsonian to receive the MVP crown after Cherry Macatangay.
“We just played our game. We played pressure–free all throughout,” said Finals MVP Rissa Jane Laguilles. Laguilles produced 12 hits for the concluding game. Although there were miscalculations and violations by Laguilles and Bautista, Lizlee Ann Gata (Best Digger) and Janet Serafica (Best Setter) gave their own superb performance that spelled victory for the team . Michelle Segodine ended Set 2 by her double quick-play that nailed their rival’s score at 13, while Best Scorer, Angela Benting, gave her marvelous open spike to finish off the last set.
“Very proud ako sa mga anak ko (players). Kasi they were really matured sa games nila. Sinusunod lahat nila ang mga tinuturo ko,” exclaimed Lady Falcons’ coach Minerva Dulce Pante.
