Thriving much on free throws, tallying 13 points from the foul line in the final six minutes, the Adamson Falcons finally reaped their first triumph, against National University Bulldogs, 73-65, in the 71st Season of UAAP last July 13 at the Philsport Arena in Pasig City.
Marc Agustin, son of retired PBA basketball star Renato Agustin, shone brightest among the Falcons as he drilled a career-high 25 points and hauled 5 rebounds, while his teammates Jan Colina (11 points, 5 rebounds) and Michael Galinato (9 points) earned significant points as well.
“This is the first time na naglaro siya (referring to Agustin) nang ganitong kaganda. And I hope ma-sustain niya ito throughout the season,” remarked Leo Austria. Austria replaces Bogs Adornado as the new coach of the University’s Men’s Basketball Team. Coach Leo used to handle teams from the Philippine Basketball League and the Philippine Basketball Association.
Austria professed to a local sports correspondent, “Nakakanerbyos kasi malaki ang expectations ng team because of our performances sa pre-season. Mahirap kasi balance ang lahat ng teams, hopefully with this win, e, magkaroon ng kumpiyansa ang mga bata.”
This first conquest by the San Marcelino-based Falcons is the team’s cornerstone in advancing to the semis, or, optimistically, even the final four.
The Bulldogs lurched to their third straight loss.
