AdU Chorale Wins In Contest

Date Posted: Jan 2, 2009 at 06:58:42 AM

The Adamson University Chorale competed against 11 other university choirs in the Voices at the Cathedral choral competition on December 12, 2008, in Intramuros, Manila. It came out third overall, winning a Php50,000 purse, for rendering “Can You Imagine?,” the contest piece composed by Fr. Carlo Magno Marcelo and “Gloria,” arranged by AdU Chorale conductor Liz S. Preyra.

The competition, organized by the Archdiocese of Manila, was open to the different schools of the archdiocese. Each choir was required to sing the contest piece “Can You Imagine?” and another one of their choice. They had to do an original arrangement for the contest piece—as only its melody was provided—and for the chosen piece.

Santa Isabel College won the 1st place while University of Makati landed on 2nd spot.

Other schools that participated were Philippine Women’s University, University of Asia and the Pacific, Far Eastern University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, UST (College of Architecture Atelier Singers), and Polytechnic University of the Philippines-UCCA (Bagong Himig Choir).
