“No work of charity is foreign to the society.”
These words coming from St. Vincent de Paul were inculcated once again to new grantees of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Ozanam Study Grant Program (SSVP-OSGP) during their General Orientation held last June 10 at the ST Chapel.
Around 74 new grantees attended the general orientation, held every semester, and were welcomed by Mrs. Alice P. Quilicot, director of the Office for Student Assistance and Scholarship (OSAS), the OSAS staff, SSVP-OSGP President Leonardo Dimatalo, and SSVP-OSGP executive officers. The program consisted of the presentation of the SSVP Constitution and By-Laws, the responsibilities of new student assistants, expected upcoming activities, and information about the current executive officers.
OSAS and SSVP-OSGP invited Ms. Heidi Nimuan, the Campus Ministry Office’s Lay Adviser and an active board member of SSVP Philippines, to give a small lecture on the life and works of St. Vincent and Blessed Frederick Ozanam and impart words of encouragement to the newbies of the grant.
The orientation ended with an inspirational message from former SSVP-OSGP President Jomel Semilla. President of the organization for school year 2009-2010, Semilla gave a testament that despite hardships in life, grantees can indeed survive and succeed
