The Office for Student Assistance & Scholarships (OSAS), in partnership with Bagong Kulturang Pinoy (BKP), joined the Vincentian Popular Mission last May 29-30 in Mangaldan, Pangasinan to conduct the Concentrated Language Encounter (CLE) Read-Aloud Workshop. More than 40 participants from three barangays in Mangaldan joined the activity.
The activity began with a brief discussion of the objectives of BKP as a partner of Adamson University and the five phases of CLE Read Aloud Workshop by OSAS Director Mrs. Alice Quilicot. A short storytelling and role-playing session for the participants were also done to give them a deeper understanding of the function of read-aloud programs to the learning process of children and trainers. Towards the end of the workshop, participants were divided into four groups to create their own storybook, which were presented afterwards.
Part of the reasons for conducting the workshop was stated by Mrs. Quilicot in her introduction: “...Poverty should not be a hindrance to make Filipino children love reading, because it is thru reading that they can make their way out of poverty.” OSAS and BKP held this workshop together with the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and representatives from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Ozanam Study Grant Program thru the help of Ms. Pamela Mantuhac, director of the Office for Vincentian Identity and Mission.
