AdU Missionaries Revisit Bicol for Follow-up Mission

Date Posted: Sep 2, 2009 at 02:38:52 AM

Despite the bad weather, the Adamson Missionaries Team successfully brought back the Vincentian Spirit to Bicol through the follow-up mission conducted at Batobalani, Paracale, Camarines Norte last August 6-8, 2009. The mission team, composed of seven students, four employees and three Vincentian priests, went back to the barangays they served during the Vincentian Popular Mission last summer. The group’s intention was to revisit Dagang, Pinagbirayang Munti, and Malacbang and update itself on what had transpired since its last visit.

The missionaries noticed a big difference in the barangays since then. A lot of changes have happened and it was a pleasure for the missionaries to learn that what they had done made an impact on the local folk, leading them to sustain these good deeds for their prosperity. Some of the transformations that happened were the improved leadership skills of both the youth and the elders; the conversion of one person, who previously did not attend Mass, to a religious lay leader; doing community prayer regularly, particularly the Holy Rosary; a massive increase in attendance during celebrations of the Holy Mass; and a heightened sense of responsibility among young leaders which eliminated the need to pay someone to lead their religious activities.

Another surprise that welcomed the missionaries was the beautification of the community chapel as well as the adornment of the mission cross, which had been planted during the first visit. These changes have made the missionaries realize the value and significance of what they have shared to the communities. These were also reasons for the growing faith and hope among missionaries that they may serve as constant inspiration for the local folk to continue the work they started.

The follow-up mission is part of Adamson University’s objective of imparting Vincentian spirituality and was made possible by the continuous support of the University President, Fr. Gregg L. Bañaga, Jr., C.M. and the Office for Vincentian Identity and Mission (OVIM). Willy Bumenlag (Volunteer Missionary)
