Round of Activities to Celebrate St. Vincent’s Feast this September

Date Posted: Sep 2, 2009 at 02:36:55 AM

A slew of activities has been programmed to celebrate the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul, Adamson University’s patron saint, this September.

Festivities kicked off with In the Footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul, a photo exhibit by University President Fr. Gregg L. Bañaga Jr., C.M., and Fr. Manny Manimtim, C.M. The photo exhibit features images of the places in France where St. Vincent has lived and worked during his lifetime. A photo and essay-writing contest was also launched, and winners will be announced on Sept 23-25.

A Way of St. Vincent will also be held throughout the month, along with a read-aloud workshop which will be conducted by the Office for Vincentian Identity and Mission (OVIM) and Office for Student Assistance and Scholarship (OSAS) in Cabuyao, Laguna for residents of the Southville relocation project.

Novena prayers are also being held at the ST Chapel until September 24. A seminar-workshop for lectors and commentators was also held by the Campus Ministry Office last September 11.

The launching of the formal celebrations for the 350th Death Anniversary of St. Vincent and St. Louise de Marillac, founder of the Daughters of Charity, was held in the afternoon of September 19 with a vigil. Afterwards, the Vincentian Youth Congress was held at 6:00 PM, attended by more than 500 participants from various Vincentian and DC schools.

The Human Resources Management and Development Office (HRMDO) has several activities to help commemorate the feast in their own way. A livelihood seminar on dishwashing liquid and fabric conditioner manufacturing was held last September 22 and 23 while another seminar on voice and stress management was conducted on the 24th. A mass commemorating Worldwide Teachers’ Day was also celebrated on the 23rd.

Theater will bring the patron back to life as the Cultural Affairs Office and Philippine Stagers Foundation brings back San Vicente: A Zarzuela on September 23 and 24 with a gala performance on September 23 at 2:00 PM.

The AdU Student Government will hold a student forum also on September 23 and 24 at 8:00 AM until noon. A soup kitchen, the Pasinaya Kay Enteng, and the quiz bee will then be held simultaneously on September 24. And in the evening, MYX, the hit music video channel, will come to Adamson and entertain the folks with a concert at the ST Quad.

Festivities wind up on September 25 with a Mass at 1:00 PM at the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Church. San Vicente: A Zarzuela will have a repeat performance as an outreach program for indigents at 3:00 PM, while rock band Cueshé will bring down the curtain with a concert at the SV Quad at 7:00 in the evening.

The St. Vincent parish will also have its own set of activities on September 27, Sunday, the actual feast day of St. Vincent.

The entire Adamson community is enjoined to take part in all activities and give thanks to the Patron Saint on his jubilee year. Yael Esperat
