The Soroptimist International conferred on Engr. Merlinda Palencia the Ruby Madwa Professional Award during awarding ceremonies held at the Manila Yacht Club last February 18, 2010. Engr. Palencia, the current chairperson of the Chemical Engineering Department of Adamson University, was recognized for her contributions to measurable and sustainable development work, particularly her efforts in helping the victims of Typhoon Ondoy last year. She is an active volunteer of AdU’s Vincentian Center for Social Responsibility and is the first-ever academician to receive the award.
As the citation partly reads, the award was in “…sincere acknowledgement of the outstanding work which makes an extraordinary difference in the lives of other women, thus contributing immensely a significant impact that inspires them to lead better lives.”
Mrs. Carmen Moreno, SI Manila District/Sampaloc Chapter president nominated Engr. Palencia at the instance of the Mrs. Ana Liza Ragos, AdU Vice President for Administration.
