Summer of Victory for Adamson’s Volley and Softbelles

Date Posted: May 21, 2010 at 02:55:51 AM

It was a bittersweet season for Adamson University as the Lady Falcons capped a dominating tournament with a loss to the Central Philippines University (CPU) in the finals of the 14th Nestea Fit Beach Volleyball Championship in Boracay last April 25.

Though the Lady Falcons’ duo of Angela Benting and Lizlee Ann Gata suffered its only loss of the tournament at the championship to CPU’s Jovelyn Gonzaga and Dhannylaine Mae Demontaño, it still does not take away the fact that the San Marcelino-based spikers played splendidly throughout the four-day contest.

Clearly, Benting and Gata’s balanced attack and team play proved to be too much for the other teams as they walked past them in the eliminations. But great as the Lady Falcons were, their entry to the finals was sort of a surprise for them. “Sobrang nag-adjust kami kasi sa indoor [court] lang kami nag-training, hindi kami nag-training sa buhangin. Hindi talaga namin ine-expect na aabot pa kami sa championship,” said Benting.

The crowning moment of Adamson’s performance this season was the dismantling of last year’s champion, University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) bannered by Erika Camille Verano and Apple Eve Saraum.

“Siyempre masaya kami nung natalo namin sila. Inisip namin na kailangan talaga naming manalo kasi gusto namin makabawi,” Benting adds. “Teamwork at usap sa court, yun yung naging susi kaya namin sila natalo.”

Indeed, the duo made life miserable for the girls from the South as they beat them in dominating fashion 21-11, 21-14.

Meanwhile, Adamson’s softball team conquered foes up north as they bagged the 2010 Philippine Series Big League Division crown held in Daet, Camarines Norte.

The win does not only solidify the Lady Falcons’ reputation as a softball powerhouse in the country but is also a vindication for them after losing to Pampanga in the finals last year.

“Very proud ako sa kanila. Sa umpisa palang expected ko na sila ang magcha-champion,” according to Ms. Malou Isip, Adamson University’s Athletics Director.
