In an off-season display of A-game basketball, the Adamson University men’s basketball team swooped in for the kill and clinched the 2017 Fr. Martin Cup Championship.
The Soaring Falcons displayed their dominance in the hardcourt by outlasting Diliman College in a 65-61 grinding match for the championship held last Sunday, April 2, at the San Beda gym.
It was a closely decided game, with Diliman College inching in during the final quarter and even managing to snatch the lead 52-51 with less than seven minutes left in the clock.
The team from San Marcelino proved their mettle in the homestretch, pounding back to a 63-61 lead with 5.5 seconds left in regulation. A pair of charities from Sean Manganti sealed the victory for the Soaring Falcons.
But it was Rob Manalang’s stellar performance that led the Soaring Falcons in keeping the Diliman College at bay. The point guard scored 19 points with eight made during the fourth quarter.
The Fr. Martin Cup Championship is Adamson’s second off-season championship after winning the EDQ Cup last March 10 at the Technological Institute of the Philippines.
